SKD
OVERVIEW
This is a brand design endeavor that I did for my work as a ceramicist, SKD Ceramics. As a ceramic artist, I make funcional wares, such as mugs, bowls, dishes, and even wares for the body such as earrings. As I began to selI more and more of my work at markets and my Etsy shop and my ceramic work gained popularity, I decided that I wanted to create my own personal website and branding for SKD Ceramics.
MY ROLE & PROCESS
As the owner and designer behind SKD Ceramics, I took on the challenge of branding and designing a visual identity for my work to create a brand. I wanted to create a cohesive personality to replicate the style of my ceramic work.

REVISITING MY ARTIST STATEMENT
I wanted to first revisit who I am as an artist and how I define my work. This was an important step because it allowed me to focus on the mission and purpose behind my work.

DEFINING MY BUSINESS PERSONALITY GOALS
Before diving into creating my logo and website, I wanted to first define my brand identity and personality goals. It was important to me to show off my work in a light that fits both my personality and the personality of my ceramic work.
RESEARCH
I spent time researching other visual artists and their brand to get a better feel for how I wanted to present SKD Ceramics’s visual style. I took note of the areas that I found were most important and wanted to focus on.
pHOTOGRAPHY
After researching artists and their presentation, I knew that the way and style in which the products are photographed was an important aspect of brand identity.
LOGO
To maintain a handmade quality throughout my site, I wanted to hand draw my logo in Adobe Illustrator using my handwriting style. My goals of my logo was to appear elegant and simple.
COLORs
Because the focus of my work was of the colors and textures of the Earth, I wanted to use Earth tone colors to accent my work.
